Pak Ho Hong, known as Marco, is a Hong Kong-born violinist with a dynamic and versatile career spanning orchestral, chamber, and solo performance. 

 

Marco is an avid orchestral musician. He was a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra, which toured Italy and Germany in 2022 under the direction of Joseph Bastian, featuring soloist Giuseppe Gibboni. He has also performed with the London Symphony Orchestra in the BMW LSO Open Air Classics Concerts of 2023 and 2024, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and Duncan Ward, respectively. In 2024, Marco’s leadership skills were recognized when he was appointed concertmaster of the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, performing at the Barbican Hall for the Gold Medal Finals. Recently, he performed as a guest musician with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, participating in numerous concerts, including The Proms 2024.

 

A committed chamber musician, Marco is a founding member of the Hongs Quartet. The quartet studies at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy under the guidance of Marc Danel (Danel Quartet) and is in residence with the Le Dimore del Quartetto organization. In 2023, they participated in the International Chamber Music Festival Schiermonnikoog in the Netherlands. The Hongs Quartet has received masterclasses from renowned ensembles and musicians such as the Alban Berg Quartet, Takács Quartet, Quatuor Ysaye, and Quatuor Ébène, among others.

 

He began studying the violin at the age of five under Ms. Wong Che Hang and Mr. Domas Juškys. In 2019, Marco embarked on his Bachelor of Music studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he trained under Andrew Watkinson. Currently, he is pursuing an Artist Masters in Violin Performance (Orchestral Artistry) at the Guildhall School in London with a scholarship (Margaret B. Adams Award). His mentors include Akiko Ono, Laurent Quénelle, and David Dolan (classical improvisation).

 

His artistry has been recognized with support from the Wolfson Foundation and the Albert Cooper Music Charitable Trust.
